Scheduling Once you contact me to inquire about my services, we will speak on the phone and I will get some preliminary information about you regarding what brings you to treatment. We will then figure out a time to meet for your initial session. Though the initial session will run a bit longer than usual, standard psychotherapy sessions are 45 minutes. In most circumstances, you can plan on meeting at least one time per week. After an initial evaluative period, we may decide that I can be most helpful if we work more than one session per week. It is rare to meet less frequently than once per week, as that low frequency makes important change very difficult.
When you arrange an appointment with me, you are asking me to reserve the time for you and only you. I run on-time and I do not double-book, so you can fully expect that I will be available during your reserved time. I require at least a 24-hour notice of cancellation if you are to avoid paying (at the regular fee) for the reserved time.
Payment Some people want to pay out-of-pocket for my services, as they prefer the privacy and confidentiality that I can insure when not involving third-party payers. I am also a traditional BC/BS provider and have found that several insurance carriers cover my services at an out-of-network rate; they generally have some kind of deductible and co-pay that you are responsible to pay directly to me. I also offer a sliding-scale fee schedule for those who qualify and want to pay out-of-pocket but cannot afford my full fee. Payments are typically expected at each session, unless we reach some other agreement ahead of time. My fees are reasonable and customary.
